“Cops & Robbers” Spring workout! Those people in attendance at the April 2009 Toronto Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor Certification were treated to a new Agatsu workout created by Shawn Mozen. Below Shawn explains the concept of the “Cops & Robbers” workout.

“For this workout it is the concept andnot the exercises themselves that I want you to understand. Once you have the concept you can change the exercises or scale them as need be. Cops & Robbers will put two people together in head to head competition. This workout will motivate, push and inspire your clients and give them something to work for rather than just obsessing over the astetic of a particular body part. Take two people and peform the following.”

Cops & Robbers( The robber gets a head start in this workout. The Cop, will have to chase them down and pass them finishing the workout before they do. If the cop is succesfull in finishing first then the Robber must be punished. Punishment can come in the form of tuck jump burpees or another exercise. A fun way to determine the ammount of burpees for the punishment is to use the ammount of time that the Cop finished ahead of the Robber. For example if the cop finished 30 seconds faster then its 30 tuck jump burpees.

Sample workout: 15 pull ups (Robber gets a five pull up head start- you may use Kipping pull ups) 20 box jumps- 25 Kettlebell snatches each arm.

Agatsu Kettlebell Instructors Spreading the Word

Agatsu Kettlebell instructors have been educating people about Kettlebells longer than any other group in Canada. From functional fitness, weightloss and even bodybuilding Agatsu instructors have shown a wide variety of applications for Kettlebells. Recently Ron Gonzales (Level 2) Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor gave a demo at a bodybuilding competition blowing everyone away with the ease he can handle serious iron. Carol-Lyne Desroches (recently seen in Hello Canada Magazine) used a Kettlebell routine to place third in a Canadian Fitness competition. Congrats to both of these instructors for all of their hard work and efforts in sharing Kettlebell training with everyone.

New Commando Krav Maga DVD

Kettlebell CertificationAgatsu Kettlebell Instructor Certification New dates are up for Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor Certifications in Toronto and Montreal. Everyone who is attending should be brushing up on their basics and getting ready for a tough weekend. Both certification seminars will be held at Crossfit gyms.

Certification semianrs are intense and very physical. Each weekend course is aprox 16hrs and covers:Kettlebell basics and advanced exercises, Joint Mobility and Bodyweight exercises as well as marketing, course programming and more. This is not a “pay for certification” you must earn your diploma. Be prepared for an intense physical and educational challenge. The course is worth 4-CEC credits.

Hi Shawn: I never did get around to sending an email to tell you how great the certification was. I found it tough but can’t say I was happy that it ended. I was sore for a couple of days, but it didn’t persist past Tuesday — thankfully! Thanks for the quality training and exacting requirements — there aren’t many certifications that follow through on a challenging standard. I recently spent 2 and 1/2 days in Toronto at a bootcamp with Jenn Hendershott – she has won both the Ms Olympia and Arnold Classic titles. She is pretty freakin’ amazing, but it did not come close to the paces you put us through! The “bionic man” quote about you is dead on, but the reality of your skills runs rings around the fiction of the bionic man! And, you have a much keener sense of humour!Wendy Chappell

HOLIDAY SALE Shop at the Agatsu Online Store this month and get huge savings. The lowest price on Kettlebells in Canada. We have slashed prices on other products as well. Don’t miss out on these savings this sale won’t last.

Kettlebell Jugging

Now for something a little different……Kettlebell juggling American Idol style! Before you get too excited the size of the Kettlebell doesn’t indicate the weight. Russian Kettlebells like these have the same dimenssions for light or heavy bells however the juggling is still very cool.

New Commando Krav Maga DVD

Check out the latest Commando Krav Maga DVD entitled “Vicious Knife Attacks” Shawn Mozen appears in this double DVD set that is jam packed with great instruction from Moni Aizik.

“It was a blast filming for this DVD. I wish I could have been there for the entire shoot, maybe next time. Moni is an incredible teacher and these DVDs really showcase his deep knowledge of self defense. Moni doesn’t shy away from anything with these instructionals, he deals with one tough self defense situation after another. If you are serious about martial arts and self defense training then you should get these DVDs.” Shawn Mozen-Owner of Agatsu Inc

Ivan is an accomplished wrestler and coach who is Currently the Greco Roman wrestling Head coach at the Olympic Education Center (USOEC) Marquette Michigan.

Similar to the Kettlebell the Bulgarian Training Bag allows you to work your entire body using compound exercises. While in Bulgaria I had the pleasure and torture of performing five minute rounds with the bag in 40 degree heat! It was  incredible! My grip and entire body got one hell of a workout. Mix this in with your Kettlebell training and watch as everyone else trys to keep up. Our next newsletter will include some killer workouts with the Bulgarian Training Bag. http://www.agatsu.com/8112/Without_FL/bulgarianpowerbag.htm

Gymboss Interval Timer
A few months ago one of the Agatsu Kettlebell coaches posted on the forum about a great little timer he picked up called the Gymboss. I recently found myself in need of a new timer and thought I would take his advice and get one. My Gymboss arrived two days after I ordered it and I couldn’t be happier with it. This little thing is amazing! This is the perfect timer. It is light weight and has features ideal for Kettlebell trianing like a Tabata setting! I love this little thing.
